COMPANY HISTORY

On January 23, 1930, James T. Power,
who at the age of 52 had just retired from a successful career as a
steamfitter, opened the doors to Hudson Plumbing Supplies Limited in
Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The wholesale distributor of plumbing and
heating materials, named “Hudson” after its original telephone area
code, began operations at 405 Mount Pleasant Road, a sales location
that remains active to this day. Hudson was family owned and operated
for over 76 years, during which time it established two more locations
in the Greater Toronto Area; one in Scarborough and another in
Downsview.
On November 27, 2006, Wolseley Canada
Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Wolseley PLC of England, acquired
Hudson Plumbing Supplies Limited. Wolseley, which maintains over 5,000
branches in 27 countries across Europe and North America, is the
world’s number one plumbing and heating distributor to the
professional market and a leading supplier of building materials and
services. Despite the change in Hudson’s ownership, direct descendents
of its original owner, James T. Power, remain active in the company to
this day.
Wolseley’s
worldwide presence and Hudson’s long standing dedication to servicing
the Greater Toronto Area have created a truly remarkable amalgamation.
Hudson and all the members of the globally respected Wolseley family
of companies are committed to providing the best customer se rvice
possible. Wolseley companies value their customers to the highest
degree and always strive to go above and beyond the call of duty to
offer them the truly prompt, friendly, concise, and consistent service
they deserve.
